Vertical lines, horizontal lines, diagonal lines, zigzag lines, and curved lines, etc, can all add interesting elements to your photographs. Your challenge this week is to find those interesting lines whether in nature or the human-made world. ‘Leading lines’ is an additional composition technique where lines in your image lead the viewer’s eyes around the photograph and into the main subjects. Your challenge this week is to find those interesting lines to photograph and discover leading lines where you can!

As soon as I read this weeks theme, I immediately knew that I wanted to do something with the glass orb. I have had the orb for quite some time, it was a gift from my amazing mother-in-law. I always had trouble finding the right kind of photo for it.

I thought of it right away, I was curious how the sphere would interact with intersecting lines. The lighting was…very frustrating. I ended up doing this in the evening, so I had no natural light to use. The lights you see reflecting off the sphere are the lights that hang over my dining room table, lol.

Anyway, I REALLY enjoyed shooting this weeks theme and I am very happy with the final photo (even with the weird lights). I am definitely going to try reshooting this when I have more even, natural lighting.

Week 2 was a bit challenging. The weather was terrible to shoot outside and I, unfortunately, injured my back while exercising. Nevertheless, my initial idea for this challenge was to make something look like a spiral galaxy. I wanted to lead the eye to the center of the image.

I remembered looking at a picture called "The phantom Galaxy" captured through the James Webb telescope. The infrared image looked very cool to me so I wanted to emulate it, but I wanted to use common nature objects to create the spiral. Luckily, I had some seashells from back home that came in handy for this challenge and this is how  "Celestial Nautilus” came to life.
